Job Description
We are looking for an experienced Tarpatta Machine Operator to handle rolling and wire drawing processes in a jewellery manufacturing setup. The role involves converting gold ingots into precise wires and sheets while maintaining metal integrity, dimensional accuracy, and minimal process loss. The ideal candidate must have strong technical knowledge of metal behavior and hands-on experience with rolling and drawing machinery.
Key Responsibilities
Machine Operation & Metal Forming
- Operate rolling mills (manual or motorized) to convert gold into uniform strips and sheets
- Use wire drawing machines or draw benches to achieve required wire diameters
- Adjust machine settings such as roller gaps and tension based on production specifications
Annealing & Heat Treatment
- Perform annealing (controlled heating) to maintain metal softness and prevent cracking
- Ensure proper cooling and quenching processes to preserve ductility and flexibility
Precision Measurement & Quality Control
- Measure wire and sheet dimensions using micrometers and calipers to meet exact tolerances
- Inspect for defects such as scratches, scaling, uneven thickness, or micro-cracks
- Maintain strict separation of different gold karats (18K, 22K) to avoid contamination
Maintenance & Material Accountability
- Perform routine maintenance including cleaning rollers and lubricating machine components
- Track and record gold usage, ensuring accurate accounting from raw ingot to finished output
- Minimize process-related metal loss
Required Skills & Qualifications
Experience
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in gold manufacturing, specifically rolling and wire drawing
Technical Skills
- Strong understanding of gold properties such as ductility and malleability
- Knowledge of machine settings, tension control, and forming techniques
Other Requirements
- Physical ability to operate heavy machinery safely for extended periods
- High attention to detail for precision measurement and defect detection
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Dimensional Accuracy: Maintain tolerance within ±0.05 mm
- Metal Loss Control: Keep process loss within 0.1% – 0.3%
- Machine Downtime: Minimize downtime through proper handling and maintenance
